Parallelizing R
Processing large amounts of data with complex models can be time consuming. Some tasks, such as looping over a list or repetitively applying a function, can be easily parallelized to increase speed. This workshop is a hands-on introduction to using multiple cores within R code. R is primarily a serial language but several packages allow a single program to run on multiple processors, which can greatly speed up the code. Rivanna is available to UVA affiliated researchers. The only prior knowledge assumed for this workshop is some programming experience with R.
