How can scholars use computational and digital methods to advance their research without sacrificing the interpretive, nuanced, and contextually situated stance of the humanities and humanistic social sciences?  The DH Practicum course challenges students to think of their humanities research materials as data without reducing them to data.

The Clippings Project: Independent Study in Metadata and Local History

Course Summary

This independent study course is a collaboration between the DH Certificate Program and the Research and Learning Services Department of the Library.  The Clippings Project, headed by Mandy Ritzki, Reference Librarian, is a collection of thematically organized periodical clippings collected by UVA librarians over recent decades.   Students who take this independent study will develop a syllabus in collaboration with Mandy and DH Certificate Director Rennie Mapp, and will work with a faculty instructor who will provide oversight.
